While I was at CES, I had a chance to check out Interactive Toy’s Concepts Skeet Shooter and their cool fleet of toy helicopters. They had one that could be controlled with a motion-sensing joystick, but they didn’t have a voice-controlled one like this one from Nikko.

This Nikko remote controlled helicopter can be controlled with the traditional dual stick remote, but its voice command feature knows how to respond to certain vocal commands such as “start engine”, “higher”, “lower”, “hold” and “stop”.

By the way, it also comes with a sensor that knows where the ceiling is, and won’t go any higher. This is quite a relief, because I am sure that many a toy helicopter has bit the dust due to hitting a glass (or some other type of) ceiling.

The biggest problem with RC toys is that they run on batteries, and those batteries have to be replaced or charged every once in a while. Sure, there are longer-lasting batteries, but what if an RC car used something else?

I’m talking about the same thing that keeps kids and adults going, like juice and soda. Inside the Tomy Ene pocket RC car is a “bio-battery” that can generate energy from the sugars in the aforementioned drinks. This battery, developed by Sony, has a cell that can output 50 mW worth of power, but I’m not certain how much run time that is.

In other words, how many miles does it get to the gallon? My source doesn’t have an accurate fuel consumption number for this, but it does say that the Tomy Ene pocket RC runs better on Coke products and grape juice.

Hovercrafts aren’t exactly the most popular form of transport even until today, but it does offer a slew of fun if you’ve ever hopped on one. Well, assuming you have never experienced such a privilege, then the RC Hoverpod could be just the thing for you, as it allows you to pilot your very own Hoverpod.

Just like the real thing, the Hoverpod slides around the place by thrusting air downwards and propelling along in zippy fashion, leaving you to use the remote control to guide it past obstacles (tables, chairs, the legs of family members). Though it won’t work on water, you can still have hours of fun playing at being the skipper as you nimbly guide the Hoverpod across smooth floors and carpets (as long as the pile isn’t too shaggy).
The law of diminishing returns applies here, where a 10-minute charge offers 5 minutes of hover-time, while the remote control ought to be stocked with a quartet of AA batteries. As with everything else, there is a need for practise as the RC Hoverpod has a learning curve before you can zip it around with aplomb. Each of the RC Hoverpods will cost £24.99, where you can choose from red or blue colors.

Even though Bigfoot still alludes hunters in the Pacific Northwest, Fisher-Price has decided to merchandise him as a toy. I guess that the T-shirts weren’t enough. You’d probably have to live in the Pacific Northwest to get this joke.

In fact, the popular toy company is unveiling the Imaginext Bigfoot the Monster at the Toy Fair 2010 in New York. Granted, you may feel offended with Fisher Price’s calling Bigfoot a monster, and I’m sure that someone other than me will complain.

The Bigfoot is a remote controlled toy that has a remote, and it can do facial expressions, walk, and even do somersaults. It also has some touch points so the Bigfoot will, I don’t know, laugh when you touch his tummy, or something.

As a kid you always dream of those ultimate spy toys that allow for you to torture your siblings. As an adult you might still want them, but it’s doubtful that you’ll feel reassured living with a kid that owns one of those serious spy gadgets. This TRAKR would be a whole lot of fun, just as long as you’re the one controlling it. It’d be pure misery for anyone around you that doesn’t possess something like this.
